Arch Pharmalabs Ltd., India, announced the signing of a Technology Access and Services Agreement with Orochem Technologies Inc., United States, on an exclusive basis.
The agreement allows Arch to collaborate with Orchem for the use of Orochem’s proprietary simulated moving bed (SMB) platform for pharmaceutical and other applications. Simulated moving bed (SMB) technology is a highly sophisticated process for performing chromatographic separation.
It is used to separate a chemical compound or a class of chemical compounds from one or more other chemical compounds in order to provide large amounts of purified or enriched material, more cost effectively than that obtained by simple chromatography (in batch).
SMB technology provides the “highest purities” of industrial scale or “metric ton” purification for APIs, nutritional supplements, fatty acids and specialty sugars.
Ajit Kamath, President and CEO of Arch Pharmalabs Ltd., said: “We are extremely excited about the technology collaboration we have signed with Orochem Technologies Inc. for the use of their proprietary SMB process, under license for various applications. Orochem Technologies Inc. is based in Naperville, Illinois, USA, and has been a pioneer in large-scale chromatographic purification of small and large molecules for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industry. “
“The partnership with Orochem provides Arch Pharmalabs with extensive opportunities for the separation and purification of various small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients from its three USFDA approved facilities in India. It also allows Arch Pharmalabs to collaborate with other pharmaceutical companies to complete API contract manufacturing in its Vitalife. installation in Gurgaon. “
“We look forward to this association with Orochem and are expanding the applications of their proprietary platform and providing unique solutions to the pharmaceutical industry worldwide. ”
Dr Asha Oroskar, CEO of Orochem Technologies Inc. commented: “We are very pleased with this new partnership with Arch Pharmalabs. Over the past 25 years, Orochem Technologies Inc. has successfully commercialized SMB chromatography technology worldwide. Applications include: omega-3s, phospholipids, sugars, active pharmaceutical ingredients, proteins, etc. from the kilo to the ton. ”
“The commercialization of SMB technology enables the global pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industry to shorten the product development cycle time for new and generic active ingredients. ”
